I lost my BEST friend last August in a Horrific car/dog accident that I will never forget. Within days, you sent me completed cards to pass out to friends and family. I don't know you, and had not heard or your service. The following week, my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I was physically and emotionally depleted upon her death on November 26 2001. During this time we all suffered from the murder and destruction now referred to as "9-11." Words have no meaning here. just too much loss. I've lost so much,... but yet, I had so much... a strange but comforting thought. I've been back to work since January 2002. place. I have a new partner, "Kety," a wonderful Holland Shepherd, I love her so. The Sheriffs Office has been very good to me on my k-9 issue as well as my personal front. "The government can be good when managed by good people" I cannot tell you how many times I have looked at your card and cried, missing him. I will always miss him. He deserved so much more. What you did for me and my three boys cannot be described in mere e-mails. We passed out those cards so proudly to everyone that knew "Jake." that I inform you of our partner's crossing the "Rainbow Bridge." Niko's Koppertone of Rib Mtn, Kopper, lost his battle with cancer. It came on literally over night and it hit hard and fast. While he put up a good fight, unfortunately the cancer won out. I apologize for taking over a week to announce this, but Jerry and I have been trying to deal with his loss. It is especially hard since Kopper had not yet reached his 5th birthday. For those of you who knew, our heartfelt thanks for your prayers and good wishes. As you all know, it is most difficult to lose a partner, and they truly are family members. Kopper died in my arms which was comforting, it is the letting go that made it unbearable. He was my dog and then I shared him with Jerry, who saw his potential. Milica
THE RAINBOW BRIDGE There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. Those old and frail animals are young again. Those who have been maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other. But there is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So each day, they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and look up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring and this one suddenly runs from the group. You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again. You look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated. (Unknown author)

1990-2001 Sagamore Hills, Ohio Police K-9 (Ret.) has passed away. Memorial services to honor Toby Wednesday, August 8 at 10:00 AM at Paws Awhile Pet Memorial Park 3426 Brush Rd., Richfield, Ohio. As his legacy, he leaves behind 5 sons, “Thor”—East Cleveland, OH PD “Hawk”—Brunswick Hills Twp., OHPD “Storm”—Medina City. OH PD “Odin”—Olmstead Twp., OH PD “Neiko”—Bath Twp. , OH PD Above are working police K-9’s, protecting & serving us all.
K9 Handlers & their partners were graveside, Aug. 8 as the music of Mariah Carey's "Hero" was playing. A minister did a brief introduction and prayer. The poem "Guardians Of The Night" was read and the country song, "If There Hadn't Been You" was played. After prayers, a police bagpiper played as ceremony ended. A beautiful service for our beautiful officer. I am fortunate enough to have one of his daughters. We namedher Misha (after Mike Brouse) who gave her to me for work my husband and I did helping with the formation of the SHPD K-9 unit and for fund raising to keep it going. victims in Moore, Oklahoma. I had Jack with me. I don't know how many people we found. It seemed like it was one right after the other. Jack was inducted into the "Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association Pet Hall of Fame" on January 22, 2000 for his work during the tornados. Soon after we joined MidWest SAR. In May, Jack helped find a drowning victim. Molly, who is now 8 years old, helped in training Jack by hiding for me and others. That is where we came up with the slogan support for search and rescue, "Get Lost." I never became a police officer, but I have one heck of a partner. His big sister, "Sam" would be proud of him. Well that is how I became involved with the SAR.
9/11/01Heard from Charlie today. This date has brought back many memories of the Oklahoma City bombing. He called to thank me for the cards to honor Jack & let me know that he will be sending a photo of newest trainee, GSD, "Buddy" who is 5 mos. old. He still misses JACK. Charlie's new partner, BUDDY BOY, who will never take the place of JACK, but is inching his way into his heart. Name of new team is PATHFINDER- The state of OK is now organized and coordinated together.
