K-9 REX

 Partner: Officer Robert Wendel
Lake City Police Dept.
PO BOX 7367
195 N. W. Main Blvd.
Lake City, Florida 32055

Officer Wendel has been with the police department for nine and half years. His partner was a 6-year-old German shepherd name Rex.
He and Rex became partners five and a half years ago. Wendel got his partner when Rex was six months old. After spending about two months together, Rex was sent to the Von see Stadt Kennel to be trained as a police dog.  "I saw training as work, but he saw it as play time. I spent more time with him than anyone else. He was  a special partner, he was my best friend." "When Rex was there, I knew he had my back. He was there to protect me." Rex was certified in police protection, and drug and people tracking. "He was trained to find most types of drugs,"  His largest bust was almost 4 pounds of cocaine. Rex almost never made a false alert.  Loved his job and was always ready to ride. If that patrol car was cranked he was there beside it ready to load. Rex made our house a home. He loved my children and my wife. He was so much
more than just a dog. He was loyalty itself. He taught me far more than I ever taught him. My loyal companion until the end.  He left this world on June 23, 2003 after a brief illness. I will miss him more than words can ever express. THANKS, Bob & Pam Wendel

K-9 BANDIT

Bandit was purchased as a pet in 1987, with hopes of becoming a police dog. In August of 1988 Bandit was sworn in as the department’s second K-9 and worked with me as a patrol dog until the program was abolished in 1995. At that time I retired Bandit to a life of well-deserved luxury.
During his working career, Bandit was credited with hundreds of apprehensions and numerous awards.   In 1992, because of my success with Bandit, I received the Montgomery County (Oh) Chiefs of Police
Exemplary Service Award. That next year Bandit was given the very first Montgomery County dog license   issued as acknowledgement for his service to the Police Dept. and
communities throughout Montgomery Co.
In addition to being a dedicated partner, he was a loyal friend to me and all who knew him (except the bad guys!).
In July of 1998 Bandit’s hips finally gave way and I had to say goodbye.   A part of me is forever lost without him, as other K-9 handlers who have lost their partners can attest to.
K-9 Bandit  served the Miamisburg Police Department from 1988 to 1995, when he retired.  Bandit was 3rd in the nation in 1991 at the USPCA Natioanal Trials.

The Miamisburg Police Department, with administration and dispatch operations located in the Civic Center, features a highly trained staff of law enforcement professionals. It employs 38 full-time officers, six full-time communications officers, several auxiliary officers and civilian staff. The force includes a detective division, a D.A.R.E. officer, a school resource officer and a community relations officer who is responsible for public information, Neighborhood Watch and business relations. Law enforcement efforts are maximized by ongoing technological advancements, which recently included all-new dispatch and 9-1-1 computer systems, new mobile radios and the addition of laptop computers in cruisers.

Seville officer recalls canine partner Kaiser
By BRUCE F. GRIFFIN - Staff Writer-Medina News Gazette
The connection between Patrolman Ivan Reed and his partner on the street, Kaiser, a German shepherd, began when the puppy chose him.
"He's the one that came to me, sat between my legs" and when "he looked up at me, I knew this was him," Reed said. Monday, Reed lost Kaiser, 11, to a spinal tumor. "He was on the road with me for five years," related Reed, who's been with the department for 12 years. Kaiser was purchased from a Westfield Township breeder in April 1992. He was 7 weeks old at the time. He started police training in November of that year, trained by former Mogadore Police Chief Tim Wilmuth, and certified as a K-9 dog April 1, 1994. Reed paid for the training out of his own pocket.  At the time, the 47-year-old village patrolman said, Kaiser was Medina County's only police dog. German shepherds are known for their intelligence and loyalty.  Kaiser's fur was mostly black, with "some red in him. He was a beautiful dog," Reed said.  Kaiser was retired from the department several years ago. There are no plans to replace him, Police Chief Kris Weir said. "Maybe at a later date," Reed said. "Right now, it is just a little too hard."  Village Councilwoman Leslie Miller, who 20 years ago worked with Reed on the rescue squad, said there would be a service for Kaiser. A date and time has not been announced.

301 N.E. 38th St.
Oakland Park , FL 33334

Andor served the Oakland Park Fl. Police Dept. from 1993-1997 as a crossed trained patrol and narcotic detection dog. Andor was a German Shepherd born in Holland.
After his 12 week patrol dog school in Metro Miami Dade he worked the night shift in the City of Oakland Park, Broward County, FL. Andor competed and received National points in several regional K-9 field trials. Andor took 5th place in the total search category in the 1994 USPCA National Police Dog Trials. Andor and his handler received 7 Official Departmental Commendations and 1 Officer of the Month Citation for K-9 related incidents. Andor was directly responsible for locating over 100 hiding or fleeing felony suspects, including many robberies that involved shootings. Andor performed dozens of K-9 demonstrations for the public and was always a hit with his energetic obedience routine.
Andor had to retire in 1997 due to an arthritis condition. After his retirement he lived with his handler and the handler’s wife and kids for 6 additional years as the family pet. In 2003 his arthritic condition got so bad he had to be put down. He will be missed and remembered by many in the South Florida area, especially those he lived with.
